Biography:
Peter MacKinnon has been President of the University of Saskatchewan since 1999 and will be stepping down from the position on June 30, 2012. Prior to his appointment as President, he served as Dean of Law and Acting Vice-President (Academic).
Peter received his education from the Universities of Saskatchewan, Queen’s and Dalhousie. He articled in Kingston, was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1975 and to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1979 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990.
Peter MacKinnon’s serves on several public service boards, councils and committees. His awards include honorary degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Regina. He received the Canadian Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award in Saskatchewan in 2005 and most recently the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and has been named as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
