About Me

I'm D. Grant Black, a seasoned commercial writer, editor and award-winning travel journalist. I write and edit advertising and brochure copy, marketing documents, editorial, advertorial, client profiles, media releases and speeches. I also provide media consulting services. I'm always open to assignments and to meet in-person to discuss your communication needs.

Work History

I'm a veteran generalist writer and editor, professionally trained in a two-year program, Print Futures, at Douglas College in Vancouver. Prior to Douglas College, I studied Creative Writing at Simon Fraser University (SFU). I worked in Calgary for seven years as a magazine editor and commercial writer-editor before a return to Saskatchewan in 2004.

I'm the author of the 2009 Tourism Saskatchewan Travel Media Award-winning, best-selling "Saskatchewan Book of Musts: The 101 Places Every Saskatchewanian Must See" and I'm a TIAC (Tourism Industry Association of Canada) 2010 Travel Media Award finalist. I'm the Saskatchewan editor for Chatelaine magazine and the Saskatchewan travel editor for AOL Travel Canada, which launched a cross-Canada travel blog in December 2010. My travel posts can be found at travel.aol.ca

I write for five sections of The Globe and Mail (Travel, Books, Report on Business, Life, Style) plus the National Post, Toronto Star, Boston Globe, Canadian Geographic/Canadian Geographic Travel, Air Canada's enRoute, Westjet's up!, Canadian Living, Chatelaine (Saskatchewan city editor), Western Living (former Saskatchewan editor) and many more. Some of my writing clips are at DGrantBlack.com
